How to Ensure the Reliability of the Autoclave in Your Lab

There are a few steps you can take to ensure the reliability of your lab’s autoclave. Autoclaves are so important, that users do not want any down time. So, in today’s blog we will give you some suggestions on what you can do to make your autoclave as reliable as possible. 

Start With Something Reliable 

In general, autoclaves are reliable to begin with. But you want to buy a major brand with a long and illustrious history. Never buy a cheap autoclave and expect stellar results and reliability. Autoclaves are too important for that. Establish a relationship with an autoclave dealer (like us, Alpha Scientific) and go with their recommendations. 

Maintenance and Testing 

Thoroughly understand how the autoclave works and do all the required maintenance and testing. Your dealer will advise you on what maintenance and testing is needed and how to perform these tasks. Maintenance and testing is for your protection and to be sure that your autoclave is working perfectly. By understanding the autoclave, you will know if anything is not working quite right, and you can get something fixed while it is a small problem instead of waiting until it is a large problem. 

Use the Autoclave Properly 

Use the autoclave properly. Never put anything in the autoclave that you are not absolutely sure can go in there. Don’t experiment. If you have questions, contact your dealer and/or the manufacturer. Some materials can be autoclaved, and some cannot. If you use the autoclave exactly how it is intended to be used, you increase your probability of having long-term reliability. 

Whenever you have questions about your autoclave, ask for help from the dealer or manufacturer. Don’t guess. Yes, sometimes equipment breaks down, but usually we have indicators of a problem well in advance. A good dealer is always a phone call away.
