How Autoclave Usage Volume Affects Maintenance and Replacement-Parts Planning

Just like any other machine or tool, an autoclave needs regular maintenance. The more the autoclave is used, the more often some parts will need replacement, and others will need to be checked and/or calibrated. This is normal wear and tear.

Replacement

The parts of the autoclave most likely to need attention or replacement are the door gaskets or seals which deteriorate over time with the heat and pressure. Another possibility are the air and water filters. Next in line are the interior parts like the trays and racks. Autoclave owners may receive warnings such as failed cycles even before they visually notice anything amiss.

Checking and Calibrating

Parts that need regular checking and testing and/or calibrating are the water reservoir, drains, heating elements and steam generator. These are parts, however, that would need to be checked by a professional well acquainted with your particular machine.

There are also multiple sensors and gauges that monitor the inner workings of your autoclave. These parts also need professional attention and regular calibration. Your autoclave professional will let you know the timetable to follow for your specific autoclave based on its usage.

Determining how and how often to check your autoclave for parts that may need attention is something your autoclave dealer can help you with. This will depend in part on what type of autoclave you have and how much you use it. This is why having a good working relationship with your autoclave service professional will save you time, money, and headaches.
