How Do Clinics Prepare for Unexpected Autoclave Downtime?

Hopefully, your autoclave will never have an unexpected outage. It is important, however, that you prepare for one. In today’s blog article we are going to address how clinics or businesses prepare for unexpected autoclave downtime. 

Relationships 

The first thing is to perhaps know other businesses or departments or floor in your building also operating autoclave who could help you out by running one or two cycles for you. Explore what other businesses or clinics have and you might be able to strike an arrangement with them, because they will face the same problems are you might. 

Your Service People 

Establish a good relationship with your service person who you have on speed dial. You want to know who you can call immediately if you have a problem, who can help you to troubleshoot it on the phone or make a quick visit.  

Inventory 

Make sure you have on hand all the possible bits and pieces that might need replacing if it’s an easy fix, such as a door gasket or hose. Your service person can advise you on what to keep on hand in case of emergencies. 

The Inevitable 

If your autoclave downtime is not your fault but, for example, the fault of a power outage, then you may have to close your business or office or clinic for a day or two until power is restored. Staff may have to come in early or late to get things back up and running. 

Do the best you can to prepare for an autoclave outage, but be aware that sometimes, these outages cannot be prevented or foreseen, and your service people will help you get back up and running as quickly as possible.
