Tuttnauer 66 Series Horizontal Steam Autoclave

The Tuttnauer 66 Mid Range Series is a line of large, floor-standing horizontal steam sterilizers with a 26″ × 26″ chamber cross-section. Current models are the 66C (430 L) and 66D (540 L).

It’s built for facilities that have outgrown compact sterilizers: university and veterinary labs, research facilities, production sites and hospital sterile processing. Each unit is configured to order with one or two doors, a steam source and the loading equipment you need.

Alpha Scientific is an authorized Tuttnauer dealer. We’ve installed 66 Series sterilizers in Alberta and BC, and we support them with factory-trained service.

Why the 66 Series

Large capacity in a manageable footprint

The 66C’s 430 L chamber and the 66D’s 540 L chamber take full loading carts and bulk loads, but the cabinet is only about 46.5″ wide.

Flexible cycles

The laboratory version has 14 preset programs and up to 20 customizable cycles from 105°C to 137°C, including gravity, pre-vacuum and liquid cycles. Optional F0, isothermal and biohazard exhaust filtration cycles cover specialized work.

Pass-through ready

A double-door build lets you load on the dirty side and unload on the clean side, with full controls on the unloading side and optional room isolation seals.

Built for heavy, everyday use

The 316L stainless chamber, stainless piping and pneumatic valves reduce maintenance. A loading cart and transfer carriage roll heavy loads straight onto the chamber tracks.

Who the 66 Series suits

  • Veterinary schools and animal care facilities: high-volume instruments, glassware, liquids and waste
  • University and research labs: media, glassware, liquids and biohazard waste, including BSL3 / ABSL3 builds
  • Pharma, biotech, cannabis and natural health product production: pass-through layouts, clean steam piping and IQ/OQ validation packages
  • Hospitals and central sterile processing: the 6690 healthcare version with hospital cycles

Tuttnauer 66 Series FAQs

Which models are in the Tuttnauer 66 Series?

Tuttnauer USA currently lists the 66C (26″ × 26″ × 39″, 430 L) and 66D (26″ × 26″ × 49″, 540 L) for laboratories. The healthcare version of the 430 L chamber is sold as the 6690. Earlier Tuttnauer literature also listed a longer 66E (26″ × 26″ × 60″, 660 L). Call us to confirm what’s available for your project.

What’s the difference between the 66C and the 66D?

Both have a 26″ × 26″ cross-section. The 66D’s chamber is 10″ deeper (49″ vs 39″), which adds about 110 L of capacity. The 66D cabinet is also 10″ longer (67″ vs 57″), weighs about 300 lb more, and uses more steam per cycle.

Can the 66 Series be a double-door pass-through autoclave?

Yes. Each 66 Series model can be built with single or double (pass-through) automatic vertical sliding doors, with full controls on the unloading side. Bio-seal, air differential and vermin seals are available to separate rooms. We installed a double-door Tuttnauer 66E at Optimi Health in Princeton, BC.

Do we need building steam?

No. If your facility has no house steam, Tuttnauer can supply an electric steam generator (stainless or carbon steel) or a steam-to-steam generator. If your local water exceeds Tuttnauer’s recommended water quality, a reverse osmosis (RO) system can supply the generator. Our 66C install at the University of Calgary included an RO water system and loading cart.

What utilities and power does a 66C or 66D need?

Per Tuttnauer: plant steam at 50–80 psig through a 1″ NPT line, cold water at 45 psig minimum (3/4″ NPT, 13 GPM peak), a 2″ drain, compressed air at 90 psig and 3.5 SCFM, and a dedicated 1-phase 120 V, 20 A circuit for the controls. The optional vacuum pump needs 3-phase 208 V or 480 V power. Steam generator power depends on the generator, so we confirm it with your quote.

How is a 66 Series autoclave installed?

It can be recessed in one or two walls or stand free in a stainless steel cabinet, and a seismic tie-down kit is available. At about 46.5″ wide and 78.5″ high (cabinet enclosed), it needs a planned delivery path. We work through the room, utilities and delivery route with you before the order is placed.

Is the Tuttnauer 66 Series licensed by Health Canada?

Tuttnauer’s Class II “Steam Sterilizer Horizontal” licence (No. 60335) lists 66-family models under Tuttnauer’s international model numbers (6690, 66120 and 66150). For clinical use, we’ll confirm the licence status of your exact model and configuration with your quote.

Do you quote, install and service the 66 Series in BC and Alberta?

Yes. Alpha Scientific is an authorized Tuttnauer dealer with factory-trained technicians across British Columbia and Alberta, including Calgary and Edmonton. Every 66 Series unit is a custom configuration, so we quote each one. Call 1-888-818-4847 or 604-690-3389, or email sales@alphascientific.ca.
