How to Choose the Right Autoclave for Your Dental Office

How to Choose the Right Autoclave for Your Dental Office

When choosing an autoclave for a dental office or clinic, there are several factors to consider. We will list the most common ones below:

Budget:

How much can you afford to spend. An autoclave will be absolutely necessary for you but you can run a smaller one more often or a larger one less often. Autoclaves all work under similar principles, so price increases with size.

Space:

Where will you put your autoclave or where do you want it to fit? There are small autoclaves, or tabletop autoclaves, that can sit on a counter and larger standalone models.

Patient Load:

How busy are you or how busy do you anticipate being in a year or two. These numbers have a direct correlation with how much equipment you use and will be sterilizing.

Equipment:

How much equipment do you have (see above), and how often does it require sterilization? More importantly, do anticipate buying more equipment in the near future?

Volume and Type of Equipment

What specific types of equipment do you need to sterilize? Does the equipment take up a lot of volume or space or is the equipment tiny pieces like scalpel blades.

Hours of Operation

If you are not open every day of the week, you may prefer a larger autoclave that operates when the office is closed, rather than running a smaller one constantly.
